Change GPT TO NTFS

How to reformat HD from GPT partitions to NTFS partitions for Windows 7,8 installation?

If you want to install Windows 7 on a brand new machine that is currently running windows 8.

During running of OS setup, The error message says Windows cannot be installed on GPT partitions. Windows must be installed on an NTFS

First of all GPT and NTFS are two different items.

A disk on a modern desktop is usually partitioned in either MBR or GPT.

Those partitions are then formatted with a filesystem, such as FAT, ext2, NTFS, ...

You can install windows 7 by either:

Using an UEFI equipped motherboard, booting the windows DVD, partitioning the drive with GPT and installing windows on a NTFS partition.

Using a BIOS equipped motherboard, booting the windows DVD, partitioning the drive with a MBR and installing windows on a NTFS partition.

If you boot with a old fashioned BIOS and try to install windows on a GPT partitioned disk then you will get an error. This is probably what is happening in your case. (An assumption since you did not specify the precise error you get).

You solve that, either wipe the old disk and then reinstall, or change your motherboard to the right boot mode. (Some, not all, support both EUFI and BIOS modes).

TO WIPE YOUR HARD DISK:

Boot the windows DVD, press SHIFT and F10 to get a command prompt and use diskpart with the clean option. If you have multiple harddisks then make sure you select the correct one.

Use any Windows 7 or 8 startup disk. When you're asked what hard drive to install to, press Shift+F10 and a Command Prompt window will appear.

Enter the following commands:

DISKPART

LIST DISK

SELECT DISK #

(Where # is the number you saw in the previous step.)

CLEAN

CONVERT MBR

CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=50000

(The size is in MB, so enter the amount that you want to use for your system partition.)

FORMAT FS NTFS LABEL "SYSTEM" QUICK

Close the Command Prompt, refresh the installer window and it should show the new partition layout.

Select the partition you created to install Windows 7 or 8, and click Next.

WARNING: COMPLETE HARD DISK WILL BE CONVERTED AND ALL DATA WILL BE LOST.

GPT is a modern partition table. Contrary NTFS is a filesystem, which is different from a partition table.

Windows 7 needs the old MSDOS partition table and a partition formated with the NTFS filesystem.

As you already have several partitions on the drive you need to reformat the whole drive and use the MSDOS partition table.

The disadvantage is that MSDOS partition tables only support 4 primary partitions, one of those can be made into an extended partition that supports more logical partitions, but not every OS is able to boot from such a logical partition.

There is no way I know of to convert a drive on the fly from one table to another. Back up your data and try it out. Or as an alternative buy a second drive, you can then use MSDOS partition tables on it and keep the GPT on the other one.

How to add tags, keywords and labels to your blog

How to add tags, keywords and labels to your blog

how to blog

What is a keyword? | Why label your posts? | How to add keywords in Blogspot | How to add keywords in WordPress | How to use Google KeyWords

What is a keyword?

Keywords are also called labels, or tags. A keyword is like an entry in an index: a one or two word phrase relating to the content in your post. Using keywords is a way of organising your material, like having a virtual filing cabinet bursting with posts. Keywords appear at the bottom of blogposts.
In Blogspot keywords are called labels and look like this:

tag1b

In WordPress, a keyword is called a 'tag' and looks like this:

2b

Why add keywords to your posts?

Keywords (labels, tags) help you, your readers and big search engines to search through your blog to find the juicy stuff. It’s worth doing.

How to add keywords to your posts in Blogger

adding labels,tags, keywords in Blogger
When you're writing your post, you'll see the 'Labels' box on the right-hand side. Type your keywords in here - remember to use commas to separate them, and to type in one or two word keywords rather than whole sentences. You want to include specific details that you've mentioned like 'St James Park' or 'Ceebeebies' in your post, not just general umbrella topics like 'fun' or 'weekends'.
Press 'Done' once you've entered all the keywords you want.
Tip: you can click keywords you've used before just below the text box to use them for your new post too.

How to tag your posts in WordPress

Once you have finished writing a post, find the ‘Tags’ box below on the right and type in the tags that you want to include for your post.  For instance ‘tags, keywords, labels, Wordpress, Mumsnet Bloggers Network, How-To’. Use commas to separate out keywords.
 tag4
Press ‘Add’ before you press ‘Publish’. Your post will go live with the keywords attached.
tag5update
NB: If you are adding keywords to previous posts, remember to press ‘Update’ after you’ve added them to make sure they appear on your posts.

Use Google KeyWord to make your keywords more effective

So you're using keywords (tags, labels; call them what you will). Now you need to make sure that those keywords get you places. There's a red carpet in cyberspace and by pushing the right buttons and talking to the right people, you can roll right down it.
First, find the Google Keyword tool. Type in the words that best describe your post: for instance, 'advice, tips and instructions for Mumsnet bloggers'. Or input the web address that your post's at: like www.mumsnet.com/bloggers/how-to-tag .

google adwords keywords

Then hit 'search'. You'll see a list of keywords that users type into Google, along with an assessment of how many other websites are competing for that term. Find a few terms that have the most hits, and the least amount of competition. THESE are your best bet.
Using the instructions above, add them as labels (tags, keywords) to your posts, and they should open doors to the best SEO around.

ANTIVIRUS USE ON YOUR COMPUTER

These days its practically impossible to find someone who owns a computer who has never used the internet, Memory Cards or a USB Stick; if not all.

The much sharing of data across the web and from one user to another has been propelled magnanimously by things like online storage and friendly portability of Storage media like memory cards, external drives, USB Sticks and other devices.

This mega-sharing bonanza hasn't spared many of us from the devastating effects of data loss and corruption to due an infected flash, hard drive or even online file. This is where use of an antivirus comes in handy.

I have been having many clients come to our premises seeking simple recovery of work on their corrupted flash, memory card or even infected laptop or computer. The solution is quite simple - install, regularly update your antivirus and perform a full-system scan at least daily. Many antiviruses offer free versions like avast, avg, avira etc. These can be downloaded directly from the internet like below for avast:

Run the Web-Installer, perform quick-scan, full system scan and boot-time scan and you are ready to use the computer.

Sometimes the computer may be so infected with viruses, trojans, malware that even installing the antivirus programme won't sort you out.
Another option is to look for other antivirus setups, install, scan and clean the computer thoroughly. If this fails, then you may have to go for re-installation of your Operating System (OS).

Re-installing the OS is a bit technical and if unsure please seek a friend's help or a computer technician.

Note: When re-installing your OS, please have all your data backed up. Even you are sure of the procedure for installation and drive partition; its a wise idea to backup your data to say an external hard drive which can be scanned later for thorough cleaning with your AV program.

All the best!

Starting Browsers in Private Mode

From: http://www.howtogeek.com/137466/how-to-always-start-any-browser-in-private-browsing-mode/

How to Always Start Any Browser in Private Browsing Mode

private-browsing-in-all-browsers
Private browsing mode doesn’t offer complete privacy, but it does prevent your browser from saving your history, searches, cookies, and other private data between browsing sessions. You can have your browser always start in private-browsing mode if you prefer it.
Most people won’t want to use private-browsing mode permanently. You will have to log into the websites you use each time you open your browser, as your browser won’t save the cookies that keep your login state.

Google Chrome

To activate Google Chrome’s incognito mode by default, you will need to add a command-line option to its shortcut.
First, locate the shortcut you use to launch Google Chrome – either on your desktop, Start menu, or taskbar – and right-click it. Select Properties in the menu that appears.
If you are using using a taskbar shortcut on Windows 7 or 8, you will have to right-click the Google Chrome icon on your taskbar, right-click Google Chrome in the list, and select Properties.
chrome-taskbar-shortcut-properties
Add -incognito (that’s a space character, a dash, and then the word incognito) to the end of the Target box. Click OK after adding this option.
chrome-incognito-shortcut
Google Chrome will now start in incognito mode when you launch it via this shortcut. If you use other shortcuts to launch Google Chrome, you will need to modify them, too.

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox allows you to automatically enable private-browsing mode via its options window. Click the Firefox menu button and select Options to open it.
firefox-menu-options
Click the Privacy icon and select “Never remember history.” Firefox will now use the same settings it uses in private-browsing mode, although it won’t display its normal private-browsing interface.

Internet Explorer

You will need to add a command-line option to your Internet Explorer shortcuts to activate InPrivate Browsing by default.
Locate the shortcut you use to launch Internet Explorer, right-click it, and select Properties. On Windows 7 or 8, right-click the Internet Explorer icon on your taskbar, right-click Internet Explorer, and select Properties.
internet-explorer-taskbar-shortcut-properties
Add -private to the end of the Target box (that’s a space, one dash, and then the word private). Click OK.
internet-explorer-private-option
Internet Explorer will now start with InPrivate Browsing enabled when you launch it via this shortcut. If you use other shortcuts to launch Internet Explorer, you will need to modify each one.

Upgrading to Win 8,7 from Vista or XP and Drivers Updates

Win 8,7,Vista,XP and Drivers Updates

Today there are many people trying out new operating systems on their machines by doing DIY - kind of installations because of availability of installation setups and free knowledge on youtube. Some people even try down-grading from a higher OS to a lower one like those who have Win.8 taking it back to Win.7.

Many laptops and some PCs made today and since the advent of Win.7, 8 and now Win.10 have a number of specifications that are different from the generation of Win. Vista and XP in the areas of device driver availability.

Most of the new laptops today are either running on Win.8 or Win.10 today. This is making it increasingly difficult to find device drivers if someone switches from Win.8 or 10 to say Win.XP/Win 7/Vista or if one is up-grading from say Win.XP to mainly Win.7/8/10.

Sometimes you can be lucky and find compatible drivers using common driver pack solutions or ready-made drivers on manufacturers sites.
However for many old-laptops its prudent that one leaves the current operating system intact or simply does a check for availability of device drivers before venturing into up-grading/downgrading their OS.

The easiest way to check for device drivers is by running an automatic search on the laptop/PC manufacturer's website by punching in the device model name into one of the common search engines to return a list of suppliers of device drivers.

The other one is to search manually for the drivers on the available search engines like google, yahoo, bing etc.

NOTE:
Always check the device's OS version whether its 32bit or 64bit type. Go to My Computer icon, right click and select properties.

Then also for specific drivers downloaded from sites different from the manufacturer always specify the device i.e. modem, bluetooth, ethernet, touchpad, audio, Graphics, Chipset, USB, etc

During downloading, the internet connection must be superb because if the link fails before the file is fully downloaded, the installation won't work perfectly.

Installation is done the normal way. Open the downloaded file, run it and follow instructions and you are good to go.

Changing GPT to NTFS on New OS.

Super User is a question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users. It's 100% free, no registration required.
I want to install Windows 7 on a brand new machine that is currently running windows 8.
The drive is divided into 6 partitions: one for the OS, three reserved for OEM, one for MRS and one as primary.
The error message says Windows cannot be installed on GPT partitions. Windows must be installed on an NTFS formatted partition.
Please can anyone help me achieve the desired NTFS partitions?

Several tools can convert from GPT to MBR (aka MSDOS) or vice-versa. My own GPT fdisk (rodsbooks.com/gdisk) is one of them. There are limits to such conversions, though, because of the requirements and limitations of the two table types. As Hennes says, it's also possible to install Windows 7 in EFI mode on a GPT disk. The trick is in forcing the installer to boot in EFI mode.... –  Rod Smith Dec 8 '12 at 4:48
